Machu Picchu, Peru

Way up high in the Andes Mountains is Machu Picchu. It was built by the Inca people about 600 years ago. Additionally, Machu Picchu was forgotten for a long time until a guy named Hiram Bingham found it again in 1911. Today, people come from all over the world to see its amazing stone buildings and beautiful views.

Petra, Jordan

Petra is in Jordan, carved right into the cliffs. It was built by a group called the Nabateans over 2,000 years ago. Petra was a busy place for trade. But then, it was abandoned and hidden away. In 1812, a guy named Johann Ludwig Burckhardt rediscovered it. Now, tourists love visiting Petra to see its cool buildings carved into the rocks.

Angkor, Cambodia

In Cambodia, there is a place called Angkor deep in the jungle. It was the capital of the Khmer Empire many years ago. Moreover, Angkor was huge, with lots of temples and buildings. But as time passed, it was forgotten and covered by trees. Then, in the 1800s, a man named Henri Mouhot found it again. Angkor Wat, the biggest temple there, is famous all over the world now.

Troy, Turkey

You might have heard of Troy from stories like the Iliad. It is in Turkey. Troy was thought to be a myth until Heinrich Schliemann found it in the late 1800s. In addition, people think it is where the Trojan War happened. Archaeologists found many layers of buildings from different times. Troy’s discovery helps us understand ancient stories better.

Atlantis, The Lost City

Atlantis is a famous story from ancient Greece. It was a big island that sank into the sea. Nobody knows if it is real, but it is fun to think about. Some think Atlantis might be connected to real places like Santorini. People still search for Atlantis today, but it is still a mystery.
